How can you blame corporations? It's us man. If we didn't give big oil a market they wouldn't exist. The pipeline is required to maintain the "oil fix" that the American economy and population keeps sucking on.

Sammy, protestors need not protest, they just need to stop using oil. But alas they can't. Many of them even flew to Washington in large oil powered flying machines to shake their fists in anger. As long as this is the case, oil development and pipelines will be required.

Well if that was the answer, then the Canadian company would refine in Alberta. There are arguments in favor of local refining, but the Canadian company would have no interest in just popping it over the border to North Dakota for the value add.
